Labuhan, The Mystical Rituals Of The Yogyakarta Palace

Labuhan is a traditional ceremony which is held by the kings of Yogyakarta Palace which aims to invoke salvation to God for The King, The Palace and Yogyakarta People. The ceremony is full of magical meanings and conducted officially in the context of the coronation events of the King of The Palace. This is what makes this ceremony has standard rules in accordance with the provisions that applied in the Yogyakarta Palace.

The Yogyakarta Palace harbor ceremony has been carried out since the establishment of the Yogyakarta Palace after the Giyanti Agreement or Palihan Nagari that held in 1755 which is essentially a sacrifice ceremony according to the old belief concept to commemorate and return the favor for the services of Kanjeng Ratu Kidul and one of the courtiers named Kyai Sapujagat who contributed greatly to the struggle of Panembahan Senopati.

Labuhan ceremony was held in four places which is believed to be protective places for the existence of the Yogyakarta Palace. The places used include: Mount Lawu (Karanganyar Regency, Central Java), Kahyangan Dlepih (Wonogiri Regency, Central Java), Mount Merapi and Parangkusumo Beach (both in the administrative area of the Special Region of Yogyakarta). The four places are used by the Yogyakarta Palace when carrying out Labuhan Ageng. Labuhan Ageng itself is held once every eight years according to Saka calendar calculations. Meanwhile, if the Yogyakarta Palace carries out the Labuhan Alit, The Ceremony that is held once every year, carried out in three places, namely: Mount Merapi, Parangkusumo Beach, and Mount Lawu.

The implementation of the Labuhan ceremony is specifically aimed at giving ubarampe to the "watchers" as the visible force (invisible to the eye) where the ceremony is held. Thus, the ceremony that held at Parangkusumo Beach aims to provide a set of sesajen addressed to the authorities of Parangkusumo Beach or the South Coast, namely Kanjeng Ratu Kidul. Likewise, at Mount Merapi, sesajen at Mount Merapi are addressed to Kyai Sapujagat as a watchman for the location. In kejawen mystic, the purpose of sesajen is actually an effort of harmonization through a creative spiritual path to harmonize and connect the magical power of human aura with all of God's creations that are side by side in this world, especially the forces of nature and supernatural beings.
